Wow. Quite the story for Mr. Priest. I wonder if died as notably as he lived?

I don't believe so. From my research, and skimming the surface, Mr. Priest left the wartime world in his 30s. One article suggested that crews and captains did not want him on their voyages by the late 1910s because of his past, though of course we know it's completely circumstantial. He worked jobs on land, supported his small family, but died young at the age of 49, I believe, and without particular fanfare. An interesting story, and perhaps a solemn one.
